What is the Torch Down Roofing System?

Torch down roofing involves laying modified bitumen sheets and using a propane torch to bond them permanently to the roof. This bitumen, often modified with rubber or plastic, can expand and contract without damage.

This roofing type is ideal for flat or slightly pitched roofs, unlike the steep-pitched roofs most homes have. Shingles, which aid in quick water drainage, aren’t suitable for flat roofs because water tends to pool, seeping through shingle cracks into the underlayment and roof trusses. Torch down roofing provides a watertight seal between the bitumen sheets, preventing water infiltration.
